Radiesse

What Is Radiesse?

Radiesse is another unique treatment in the aesthetic field that stimulates the body’s natural collagen production to address loss of volume and loss of collagen. Unlike traditional fillers composed of hyaluronic acid, Radiesse is composed of microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a biocompatible substance found in bones and in teeth, suspended in a gel carrier.

CaHA acts in two ways- immediately creating volume and lift to the treatment area, and over time the CaHA microspheres act as a biostimulator to increase the skin’s collagen production, which help maintain the results even after the gel carrier is absorbed.

Radiesse is used for rejuvenation in areas where volume has been lost such as temples, cheeks, pre-jowls, the hollow in front of the ears. It can also improve the appearance of nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and enhance the chin and jawline. When used in a dilute manner, it can be used to improve textured and wrinkled skin without the effects of volumization on the face, neck and decollete. It can be used to correct volume loss and improve the appearance of aging hands.

The Procedure

Depending on your facial structure, amount of volume loss, and desired outcome, you may need 2-3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Radiesse is injected as a gel suspension in targeted areas under the skin along with a numbing agent using a needle or cannula..

There is minimal downtown with Radiesse treatments. You can expect to feel minimal tenderness in injected areas and look slightly puffy for up to 48 hours before some of the excess fluid is reabsorbed. There may be some mild bruising after injections that will resolve over 7-10 days.

The End Result

You will see an immediate improvement in volume in the areas injected due to the immediate plumping and smoothing effects from the gel. Over the next few weeks to months, as the body produces new collagen, the skin’s texture and firmness will continue to improve.

Results can last up to 12-18 months, longer if smaller maintenance treatments are performed in 6-12 months.
