Why Peels Work
In our youth, skin cells naturally turn-over every 18 to 20 days resulting in a healthy, glowing look. As we grow older, this process slows down giving us a dull appearance.
Chemical peels promote cell turnover, which helps slow the appearance of aging. It also aids in improving acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and sun damage. It also can help skincare products to work better.
At Lumera we have chemical peel options that can be customized to meet the needs of your skin type and condition.

Treatment
Our Aesthetician will cleanse the treatment area to remove makeup and debris.
Enzyme: The peel is applied in a circular motion to exfoliate the dead skin cells. The enzymes will be left on the face for 10 to 30 minutes depending on the type used. After the appropriate time, the enzyme is washed off with warm water and a moisturizer is applied.
Chemical: The peel is applied lightly onto the skin being treated using a sponge, cotton pad, swab, or brush (avoiding your brows, eyes and lips). During peel application, you may experience a slight tingling (light to medium peels) or a burning sensation (deep peels). The length of time the solution is allowed to work is determined by carefully observing the changes in the appearance of your skin. The solution is then neutralized and washed off.
Post treatment will depend on the depth of peel and type used.
Different Types
Enzyme: made from fruit enzymes. A milder type of peel that is gentle and effective.
Chemical: made from various ingredients such as salicylic acid, mandelic acid, retinoic acid. This type gives you a deeper exfoliation.
These procedures have little to no down time. Precaution should be used to avoid intense sunlight for up to a week following the procedures with liberal use of sunscreen and moisturizer.
The End Result
We recommend a peel to accelerate the natural exfoliation process which will keep your skin looking fresh.
For those with sensitive skin or minor issues an enzyme peel produces the following results:
- Controls acne, shrinks pores, and removes blackheads
- Diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, and some scarring
- Reduces age spots and redness
For those with more severe issues the chemical peel is best when it comes to:
- Diminishing fine lines and wrinkles
- Smoothing pigmentation and acne scars
- Diminish the appearance of enlarged pores
- Tightening sagging skin
Depending on your skin type and need we can help find a treatment that is right for you.
