PRP Hair Restoration

How Does Hair Restoration Work?

We offer a number of solutions for thinning hair. One treatment option utilizes Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) to stimulate follicles, enhancing microcirculation and promoting regrowth of new healthy hair. Platelets are a component of the blood that promote healing, cell growth and regeneration. As the term “platelet-rich plasma” suggests, platelets are generally about five times more concentrated in PRP than in regular blood. When injected deep into the scalp to reach the bottom of the hair follicle, stimulation of a specialized population of cells named dermal papilla cells happens which play a critical role in hair growth.

The second treatment option utilizes small, membrane-bound vesicles called Exosomes. When used for hair restoration, bioactive molecules contained within these vesicles can stimulate hair follicles, promote blood circulation and reduce inflammation in the scalp, all of which contribute to healthier hair growth.

The Treatment

For PRP hair restoration, the highest quality PRP is harvested from your own blood, providing a naturally occurring injectable for cellular support which contains an extremely high concentration of various growth factors and other bioactive proteins. After numbing the scalp, the PRP is injected and microneedled into the dermal layers of the scalp.

For hair restoration with Exosomes, the scalp is first treated with the Moxi fractional laser to increase blood circulation to the scalp and to increase product penetration into the scalp with the Exosomes. Alternately, the Exosomes can be microneedled into the scalp.

For optimum results PRP or with Exosomes, three treatment sessions are recommended scheduled 4-6 weeks apart.

The End Result

It is important to note that it can take time to see the complete results of treatment with PRP and with Exosomes, but they are lasting. In fact, most patients enjoy the results of their treatment and continued improvement for at least six to 12 months after the original injection.

Most patients are highly satisfied with results and studies show that the results of treatment are often times better than the results from topical creams such as minoxidil (Rogaine) and other non-invasive procedures. But it is important to note that depending on the starting condition and each person’s response to treatment that individual results may vary, so it is important to start with a consultation with a qualified provider.

FAQs

The scalp can be a very sensitive area, so we take every precaution to limit discomfort to a tolerable level. For the scalp PRP treatment, a topical numbing agent is applied as well as additional numbing injections to the target area to make the patient as comfortable as possible. Pronox can also be used for additional comfort during the procedure. Patients can apply cooling compresses after the procedure for additional comfort.

Typically patients may need more than one treatment. Depending on the severity of the issue that is being addresses and each person’s individual response to treatment, usually 2-3 treatments is recommended along with possible yearly maintenance treatments.

Including numbing, the process usually takes around 90 minutes.
