What Are Fillers?
There are many different types of dermal filler. At Lumera, we use FDA-approved hyaluronic acid (HA) gel fillers from Juvederm and Restylane. HA is a substance that’s naturally occurring in the human body. As we age, we lose collagen and elastin, volume in our facial bones, and normal supportive fat pads. Together with the effects of gravity, these natural changes result in the signs of aging.
HA fillers can be used strategically to:
- Recreate a youthful cheek bone curvature
- Soften lines and wrinkles around the mouth
- Create a smooth and defined jaw line
- Bring volume and hydration to deflated lips
- Reduce undereye hollows
- Rebalance your facial proportions
- Enhance the natural contours of your face
When HA fillers are placed carefully, the results are beautiful and natural, and no one will ever know you had filler placed – they will just notice how well-rested and rejuvenated you look!
The Procedure
Your filler procedure will begin with a careful assessment of your goals and concerns, as well as your facial anatomy.
During the procedure, HA filler will be injected into the determined areas. Topical or injected anesthetics can be used for your comfort as needed, though typically the procedure is generally well tolerated.
There is technically no down time after a filler procedure, however depending on the area treated, you may have some mild bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness for a few days after. For this reason, we recommend doing a filler treatment at least 2-4 weeks before a big event.
The End Result
The results of a filler procedure are instantaneous, however due to the time it takes for your tissues to heal, full results are typically observed by 14 days after treatment.
Depending on which area has been injected, and which filler product was selected, your results typically last around 6-18 months.
FAQs
Dermal filler procedures are usually minimally painful. If needed, topical or injectable anesthetics can be used to keep you very comfortable. For lip filler, we typically use a nerve block to ensure your comfort.
The appeal of filler is that results are instantaneous. However, allowing time for your tissue to heal before assessing whether additional filler is needed can lead to the best results.
Your dermal filler procedure will start with an in-depth consultation to discuss your goals, concerns, and medical history, and assess your facial anatomy. The procedure itself takes about 30-45 minutes.
